AFTERCARE
INSTRUCTIONS
Here is some After-Care Instructions for your new tattoo. It will heal BETTER if you follow the directions below:
-
Keep the Saniderm layer on your skin at least overnight. I recommend keeping it on for 1-3 days and no longer than 3 days. Once you take off the first Saniderm, you can put on a second one for several more days over the dry tattoo.
-
After the final Saniderm film is removed, gently wash the tattoo with antibacterial soap and clean water 1-3 times daily depending on your lifestyle and be sure to PAT dry with a clean paper towel, do not wipe.
-
Apply a THIN layer of aftercare ointment (A&D Ointment, Aquaphor, Tattoo balm) 1-3 times a day. Do not use too much at a time or it can drown the tattoo and it wont be able to breathe. Don’t suspend the tattoo in water unless you apply a waterproof bandage (Saniderm) covering the tattoo. Do not submerge Saniderm in warm or how water, it will melt the adhesive layer and it will fall off.
Tips:
-
DO NOT pick any scabs or itch your tattoo. It can cause fallout and scarring. If it is flaking/scabbing/itching, make sure you are putting a thin layer of ointment on the tattoo often. Let the flakes and scabs fall off naturally and be careful not to let your clothing catch and rip off any scabs on accident. For itching you can try an ice pack or gently patting the tattoo over the saniderm or with clean hands.
-
Make sure your sheets are cleaned frequently over the next 2 weeks and don’t let pets sleep in your bed.
-
Do not submerge your tattoo in water (Bath, Pools, Hot Tubs, Hot Springs) and avoid the harsh direct stream of water from your shower head from touching your tattoo. Saniderm is waterproof in cold water but is not waterproof in warm or hot water.
-
Be careful not to bump your tattoo on anything. It could cause it to blow-out.
-
Working out, Sweating, and Strenuous activity is not recommended while healing.
-
Protect your tattoo from direct sunlight by covering it completely until it is completely healed and then keep sunscreen on it if you go into direct sunlight for long periods after it is healed.
-
Once completely healed, apply lotion or oils on it frequently to keep it looking fresh for longer. The more you neglect the tattoo, the more it may fade or look worse over time.
